As a heads up, they are closed from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. each day for lunch. Perfectly reasonable, but there is no signage to that effect, and their website incorrectly lists their hours from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.. Twice now I have bounced off the door before a 2:00 p.m. appointment. I try to show up to medical and dental appointments at least 10 minutes early to allow for any paperwork, but here when they say 2:00 p.m. they mean not one minute earlier. Again, perfectly reasonable, but I wish there was a sign or something on the door. Knocking on the door or calling the office phone number will get nothing during that window.

At my last appointment, I mentioned to the hygenist that it seemed as if a "family atmosphere" existed at Merit Dental Shamokin Dam. Her response: "I love working here. We all get along, the office manager treats us well, and Dr. Nick treats us well." Why does that matter to me as a patient? Because people do a better job when they are pleased to be doing that job and feel invested in the success of the business. Dr. Nick Hartranft sets a professional, yet somehow, informal tone. I consider Merit Dental to be one of the major "plus" factors in my move to the area, and have zero interest in going to any other dentist.

I do NOT recommend this office. There is no direct number to reach the office. I was schedule on a day that there so happened to be a snow storm. I go to my appointment at my appointment time and the office is CLOSED. I didnt get any call about rescheduling my appointment and when I called the number, I was told the doctor was no longer there for the day and the office went home. They called EVERY other patient but ME. Instead of risking MY life during this bad storm I could've just stayed home. I was told I would receive a call from the office manager. It is a week later and I have yet to receive a call. I am definitely going to a different office. Ridiculous.

Hygienists are fine, the administration side of this place is awful. My entire visit should always be covered yet I receive bills that I dont actually have to pay. Also, due to covid, everyone is being charged a $12 ppe fee. Delta dental insurance only covers $10...which leaves you with a $2 bill. Not exactly going to break the bank, just an inconvenience. If anything, start charging $10. If you want to profit off having to use hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes, just charge $10. Hygienists have always been wearing gloves, face shields and masks. PPE has always been a part of dentistry. Mouths are disgusting. Hygienists and dentists have always had to be cautious. Stop pretending anything changed.

Dr. Nick spends time and explains each detail with great understanding. His staff is both professional and go above and beyond to educate me through my process. I even take my 4 year old with me each visit and she looks forward to seeing all the same faces and know by name. No other dental facility comes close to this team. We love them.

To me, this is definitely the most experienced dental office in the area. I have been going there for 40 years and am proud to say that I finally found a dentist that I trust. Dr. Lazur was super and brought me through all of my fears and built a wonderful relationship with each other. Like a previous reviewer mentioned, Dr. Lazur is the only dentist that has ever performed a complete and thorough oral exam during my visit. He is a "dentist's dentist." Now only is his professionalism and his commitment to the practice of dentistry excel, he truly cares about his patients' well being. His staff reflect the same attributes. This practice is the best of the best.
