He has stayed several times past closing to make sure that my dental work is done correctly. If you are looking for a new dentist, you can't go wrong with him.
My wife needed emergency dental care and we searched nearly everywhere within an hour radius from our house. Nothing was available same day. This, of course, was preceded by prior dental appointments at other offices who recommended extraction at a high cost. Merit Dental “answered the call”, if you will, and was able to get her in immediately. So, we made the journey out to Lorain to visit their office. Not only were they able to help get her permanently out of pain, but they even made time around their busy schedule to start additional procedures in the same day that eventually (after some follow up appointments) saved her tooth that so many other practitioners weren’t willing to try and save. I will be moving all my family’s dental work to their office, as it’s worth the long trip to have excellent service which Merit Dental provides. Can’t thank your team enough for everything you’ve done for my wife.

The ladies here (and the dentist) were so kind and efficient! My mom has dementia but they treated her extra nice and got us in and out. Above and beyond, thanks again!

First time going there today and I am very impressed and happy. Such friendly staff and very caring. You can tell they care about their patients. Very informative too which I love. I never had such great service at a dentist office. I am glad I went.
Dr. Shaugnessy and his staff changed my life for the better, this review is a long time coming because I truly feel the words to describe them will not do enough justice. They took a broken mouth and even quite frankly a broken person and helped build up my confidence by restoring my teeth with 4 implants and building up two broken teeth that I thought I was for sure going to have to lose and helped build me up as a person, I was going through a really tough time personally and they were there to show the most support I have ever received from a bunch of "strangers". The Dr. is number one in my opinion in the dental world, I was petrified (talking needing to be medicated to sit in the chair for a cleaning) to being able to get surgery done several times and other procedures with minimal medication intervention. His staff are knowledgeable and caring, also the support they receive from the dentist to grow and learn in their field seems rare. I could truly ramble on all day but you need to see this practice for any dental needs, leave your insecurities at the door and be prepared to be wowed! When I write my book they will most certainly have a spot on the tribute page :)
I had very poor experiences with dentist in the past. Merit Dental completely changed my views on dentistry. Would strongly recommend.

Amazing staff, super friendly and genuinely care for you. Dr. Shaughnessy is hands down the best! I no longer dread going to the dentist and being in pain. If you have anxiety from a bad experience like me, they truly understand and take all concerns seriously. Also, the hygienist Rebecca is beyond friendly and very gentle while cleaning. I will never go to another dentist!
Procrastinated too long making excuses not to go to the dentist but with a broken front tooth I was forced. Like most people I dreaded getting nummed up and drilled but I was pleasantly surprised at how dentistry has changed in just the few years I boycotted it. Got a new crown and the dentist and assistant could not of been friendlier and efficient. I actually look forward to my next visit. I highly recommend Merit Dental in Lorain.

I had not gone in for regular dental check-ups for at least a year, due to Covid, so when I returned to Merit Dental in Lorain this week, I was a bit apprehensive. Everyone, from the receptionist to the hygienist Rebecca and dentist Dr. Matthew Shaughnessy, worked their magic and put me at ease. They are not only professional, but they take the time to listen to your concerns.
Went to Merit Dental for the first time and l was very pleased everyone was very friendly and very helpful. The hygienist (Rebecca) was great she is so sweet she explains everything so clearly. And the dentist himself was very nice and friendly. It was a good experience and l don’t like to go to the dentist. But for sure l will go back to Merit Dental.
The people are nice and easy to deal with. They have your comfort in mind. I really like my hygienist. Becca is the best in town!

I recently had a wisdom tooth pulled; and he coached me through every process with ease. It was finished before I knew it. Excellent care. I came in here to get my 14 k white golds on my fangs in my mouth and they were so cool about it. No judgement. Nothing but "we do these crowns all the time. We can't wait to get started." What a blessing from the front desk clerk's to Tanya the dental assistant to the actual doctor himself. I highly recommend them. I'm well pleased shinin : )

I have been going to this Dentist office for over 20 yrs. Always friendly and reasonable ! The hygienist is the best,when she was out for awhile I sure did miss her, I waited till she came back to work ! The front desk workers are up to date with Insurance and help you with paper work and let you know what insurance will pay and your copay ! Very helpful !
As much as I always hated going to the dentist even as a kid this one was different. Everyone was actually great. No one blew me off they genuinely wanted to help me and they did. Will be taking rest of my family there would highly recommend

Great dental office, started going to Merit Dental a couple years ago, after trying to find a good dentist, I went to Merit and have been going back ever since. Great staff, aren't pushy with you having to get procedures, gives you options. Now most of my family goes there! Looking for a dentist this the place to go!
I'm retired without Dental insurance. Merit offered a great initial service package for exam, full x-rays and cleaning in my first appointment on 3-January.. All elements of their service was of highest quality and detail: cleaning, dentist's exam and x-rays. Ashley even mentioned Merit is looking into a dental discount program for uninsured customers at a nominal annual cost. It was mentioned that program might be available as soon as late March, so I am very interest in that Merit option, when available for my wife and myself.
First let me say I am not a fan of the Dentist as I am sure many are not but I can tell you with the service and the education on good dental hygiene I received from Merit Dental I am a regular maintenance and repair patient. They are very accommodating and are sincerely concerned with your well being. I have had to visit them on both an emergency visit and preventive maintenance visit and every time they have made me feel like I was their only client at that time. They make you feel like family. I was in between jobs and insurance co. when I got this horrible toothache. a lot of dentists wouldn't even see me because I had no insurance. Merit told me that they could see me that same day. I'm glad I went there the whole staff from the girls at the front desk to dentist himself were super friendly. Dr. Shaughnessy went over all my options and took care of the problem right away. I highly recommend this place to anyone who needs a dentist!

I am so impressed with this dentist office! All the staff are super friendly and did not make me feel even the slightest bit self conscious even with all the work I needed done. Dr. Matt Shaughnessy thoroughly explained everything recommended various options for a dental plan and the associated costs. The woman at the front desk was very knowledgeable and able to break up my dental plan procedures to maximize my insurance. I am so happy I came here and would recommend this dentist to everyone in Lorain County!
I have been going to the Lorain office for many years and have always been satisfied with both the hygienists and the dentists I have had. The other thing that is important is the appointment time - never had to wait more than 5 minutes to be treated.
Not too many people can say they are ok with going to the dentist but I can. I feel they take exceptional care of my teeth and do a great job explaining what to expect. I am in the service industry and take great pride in the service my business offers and when I look at the care given by Merit Dental I can definitely say they hold the same standards that I do, they truly care about their patients.
