Switched dentists and this was my first time here. I did not have a super long wait time and everyone was very friendly. My dental hygienist Barb was phenomenal and really knows her stuff. She made me feel very comfortable and relaxed, and explained everything that she was doing and why. Dr. Hartranft is very friendly as well and explains everything in detail as to what I can expect with any upcoming procedures. I am happy with my decision. The only downside is how long I have to wait to schedule a cleaning as they are quite booked..other than that no complaints! Looking forward to returning.

I recently moved to the area and, as someone who is very particular about dental care, I was initially quite skeptical. However, this office exceeded every expectation. During my initial visit, they performed the most comprehensive exam I’ve ever had, including detailed gum recession measurements. They immediately identified that a tooth I’d had sensitivity in for a long time required a root canal—something my previous dentist had completely overlooked. They were able to schedule the procedure immediately, and it was entirely painless. What impressed me most was the efficiency and cost. Unlike my last experience where I had to visit multiple specialists, they handled everything in-house. With my insurance, the total for the root canal and crown was around $800; at my previous office, that same work cost me $1,200 and several different appointments. The staff is friendly, professional, and accommodating. They are booked about 6 months out for cleanings (which meant I missed my December appointment), but because their initial exam was so thorough, I feel completely confident waiting. Highly recommend if you want a dentist who doesn't cut corners!

I don't know if "enjoy" is the best word to describe it (given the procedure I had done - 3 root canals and a tooth extraction), but Dr. Hartranft and his staff were very professional, helpful, and compassionate in an otherwise difficult experience for everyone. Dentist visits aren’t really something I look forward to, in general, but the pros at Merit Dental, Shamokin Dam make it as good as it gets! Dr. Nick, the office staff, and they hygienists are all top-notch; friendly and skilled. Kate has been the best hygienist I’ve ever had – very personable and provides very comfortable and complete cleanings! If you’re looking for a local dentist, I’d certainly recommend giving Merit a call.

Broke a molar eating a peanut. Got an appointment the same day I called. Required a root canal and crown to fix it. It was at the end of their shift but the staff worked to fix my tooth. Took almost 3 hours. Dr. Nick and his staff are amazing! Professional and courteous. I'll never go anywhere else.

At my last appointment, I mentioned to the hygenist that it seemed as if a "family atmosphere" existed at Merit Dental Shamokin Dam. Her response: "I love working here. We all get along, the office manager treats us well, and Dr. Nick treats us well." Why does that matter to me as a patient? Because people do a better job when they are pleased to be doing that job and feel invested in the success of the business. Dr. Nick Hartranft sets a professional, yet somehow, informal tone. I consider Merit Dental to be one of the major "plus" factors in my move to the area, and have zero interest in going to any other dentist.

The staff here makes you feel very welcome. Made my wife and I feel like we found a new group of friends. All are very intelligent and up to date on all modern forms and techniques of dentistry. I cannot express my gratitude enough to Dr. Nick and his amazing staff! I came to them 6 months ago with a myriad of challenging dental issues. First off being a PARALYZING fear of going to the dentist to begin with! From the first time I walked into their office, I felt at ease. I did NOT need the usual anxiety medication to come for a visit because they addressed my problems, embarrassment, and fears with compassion, professionalism, and confidence in their ability to fix all of my problems. Six months later, I have the most amazing healthy smile! It's a dream come true! Dr. Nick created a treatment plan to address each issue, and PAINLESSLY and SKILLFULLY fixed each problem until I was walking out with the most confident healthy smile of my LIFE! His assistant Tina was with us through my whole plan, adopting me as "her patient" as well, making me feel so secure! Her skill and knowledge were amazing, and how she mixes it with such loving care is a blessing to me!! The office staff was the most incredible group of humans I have ever seen in an office setting! From day one, I was made to feel like family, and that my case mattered SO much! They went out of their way to be sure I was comfortable with my plan, appointments, and I was ALWAYS greeted with such warmth! The office manager, Melissa, was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful with insurance and billing, which can be so stressful to patients! She always had the answers to ANY questions I had! But not only that...she treated me with such love and care! Her job can be so stressful and not once did I feel that I was a bother! I used to dread going to any dentist but since I started going here it’s made me feel comfortable going and motivated me to take much better care of teeth! Great first time office experience. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff helped us feel comfortable as new patients who had not seen a dentist in some time. My wife, Debbie has been telling family members and friends all about the great experience she had at the dentist! We had no dental insurance, but we were provided a coupon that helped with the charges for both the initial exam, which included a set of full mouth x-rays and an extensive cleaning and fluoride treatment! We both agree it was a great decision to begin our relationship with Dr. Nick Hartranft and his staff. We look forward to continuing that relationship into the future.

I would recommend anyone and everyone to the Merit Dental location in Shamokin Dam! The young lady at the reception desk was very pleasant and greeted me by my name properly as I walked in the door. After being flattered and kindly welcomed to the office, I was directed to their very nice sitting are. The waiting room is very clean and tidy. Then I met the young dental hygienist who was an abesolute doll. She had all the patience in the world and was very careful yet thorough! You can instantly tell her kind heart and passion for her work. I only met the doctor briefly, young man- freshly graduated, but had a kind voice. He had a grand amount of matureness which was impressive. If it wasn’t for taking a new position and moving, I would have never of left.

Saw 'Dr. Nick' for the second time yesterday on an 'emergency' appointment. Great dentist! My first appointment was for a 'cap' (visit yesterday was unrelated). The atmosphere of the office hasn't changed with the changing of dentists. Still the same great place to come to have your teeth fixed or cleaned. And the staff is as friendly as ever.

I have a lot of respect for Dr Lazur's skills and am sorry to see him retire, although he very much deserves to. As my dentist, he was extremely caring and conscientious about what certain procedures would cost. I had my first visit with Merit Dental this month, just after Dr Lazur retired and was very pleased with the services I received. I hope to continue going there, even though it is a 1.5 hour drive each way for me.

Like a previous reviewer mentioned, Dr. Lazur is the only dentist that has ever performed a complete and thorough oral exam during my visit. He is a "dentist's dentist." Now only is his professionalism and his commitment to the practice of dentistry excel, he truly cares about his patients' well being. His staff reflect the same attributes. This practice is the best of the best.
